Let’s talk about the moving parts. The 7055308122 is a mantle, specifically cast in an Extra Fine/Fine (EF/F) cavity profile. If you’re reading this, you already know where it goes. The mantle sits directly on top of the main shaft head assembly. When the crusher runs, the shaft gyrates eccentrically, pushing the mantle against the stationary bowl liner. That’s where the rock gets crushed. It’s a brutal environment. The mantle takes the brunt of the impact, the abrasion, and the sheer compressive force.

This specific part number is a direct replacement for the Metso HP100 cone crusher. The HP100 is the smallest in the Metso HP series, but don’t let its size fool you. It’s a workhorse. We see these machines all over the place. They’re perfect for secondary or tertiary crushing in mid-sized quarries, or for producing high-quality manufactured sand in smaller aggregate plants. Because the HP100 has a relatively small crushing chamber, getting the right cavity profile is the difference between making a profit and just burning through liner costs.

Why Material Selection Makes or Breaks Your Liner Life

You can have the perfect cavity profile, but if the metallurgy is wrong, the mantle will fail. Most standard mantles are cast in Mn13 (13% manganese steel). It’s tough, it’s reliable, and it’s cheap. But manganese steel relies on work-hardening. It needs high impact to compress the surface layer and get hard. If your application is low-impact but highly abrasive, standard Mn13 will just wear away like a bar of soap.

That’s where we step in with our Mn18Cr2 alloy. By bumping the manganese up to 18% and adding 2% chromium, we increase the initial hardness and deepen the work-hardening effect. After casting, we water-quench our manganese steel to dissolve the carbides, ensuring the matrix is ready to harden under pressure. We had a customer in a Queensland quarry running HP100s in a tertiary circuit. They were crushing hard river gravel and burning through standard Mn13 EF mantles every three weeks. The rock was too abrasive, and the impact wasn’t quite high enough to fully work-harden the Mn13. We swapped them to our Mn18Cr2 alloy. The surface hardened properly right out of the gate, and they pushed that lifespan to over five weeks. That’s a massive drop in downtime and a huge saving on their monthly wear parts budget.

Understanding Premature Wear and Cavity Profiles

A lot of guys call us up complaining that a mantle only lasted a few days. Nine times out of ten, it’s not the part’s fault. It’s the application. The 7055308122 is an EF/F profile. The Extra Fine/Fine cavity has a tight parallel zone and a steep toggle angle. It’s designed to choke-feed smaller material to produce a very tight product gradation, usually for sand or fine chips.

  • Uneven feed distribution: If the rock falls to one side of the chamber, you’ll get a lopsided wear pattern.
  • Mismatched bowl liner: A mantle doesn’t work in isolation. Pairing an EF mantle with a worn-out coarse concave drops your efficiency to zero.

Keep your feed gradation strict. For an EF/F mantle on an HP100, your top size feed should really be kept under 30mm. Fix your feed chute or adjust your feed distributor before you blame the steel.
