- Mn13 — Standard manganese steel. Good all-rounder. Work-hardens under impact. Suitable for most aggregate applications where you’re crushing medium-hard rock like limestone or sandstone.
- Mn18Cr2 — Higher manganese with chromium addition. Better for harder, more abrasive rock like granite, basalt, or iron ore. The chromium increases initial hardness and slows wear in high-abrasion conditions.
Here’s a real example: We had a quarry customer in Queensland running HP200s on blasted granite. They were using Mn13 mantles and getting roughly 450 hours of service life before needing a swap. We switched them to Mn18Cr2 — same dimensions, same part number 1050130813 — and they pushed past 620 hours. Why Mantles Wear — And How to Make Them Last Longer
A mantle doesn’t just wear evenly and call it a day. Several things accelerate wear or cause premature failure:
- Wrong cavity profile. If your feed is mostly 40-60mm and you’re running a Fine mantle, you’re choking the chamber. The material doesn’t flow through properly, creates point loading, and you get uneven wear patterns that kill the liner early.
- Tramp metal in the feed. Bucket tooth, rebar, drill bit — anything that shouldn’t be in the crusher. It gouges the mantle surface and creates stress points where cracking starts.
- Running too tight a CSS. Everyone wants finer product, but running the crusher too tight forces the mantle to work harder than it should. You get more fines, sure, but your wear rate doubles or triples.
- Worn feed distributor. If material isn’t being distributed evenly around the chamber, one side of the mantle does all the work. You’ll see it — half the liner worn smooth while the other side still looks new.
Our recommendation: match the cavity profile to your top feed size. For the HP200 with part 1050130813, the Medium profile handles most quarry applications well. Go Fine only if your feed is consistently under 25mm. Go Coarse if you’re doing primary reduction from 80mm+ material.
