If you’re running a Metso HP300 cone crusher, you already know the mantle takes the brunt of the crushing action. Part number 7055308252 is the mantle that sits on the main shaft head assembly, gyrating eccentrically against the bowl liner to break down rock. Where the 7055308252 Mantle Fits in the HP300
The mantle mounts onto the crusher’s head assembly via a mantle cap and locking nut. As the eccentric bushing drives the main shaft in a gyration pattern, the mantle surface orbits the bowl liner, creating the crushing chamber geometry. The gap between mantle and bowl liner at the closed side determines your product size.
On the HP300, this mantle is typically used in standard, fine, or medium cavity configurations depending on your application. The HP300 itself is a 300 HP (224 kW) hydraulic cone crusher commonly used in:
- Secondary or tertiary crushing in quarry operations
- Aggregate production for road base and concrete
- Mining applications — gold, iron ore, copper
- Recycling and demolition material processing
The HP300 sits between the HP200 and HP400 in Metso’s range. It handles feed sizes up to about 180mm and produces output in the 6-32mm range depending on cavity profile and CSS setting.
Material Choice: Mn13 vs Mn18Cr2 — What Actually Matters
Here’s where a lot of operators get it wrong. They default to Mn13 (13% manganese steel) because it’s cheaper and “standard.” But if your rock is hard and abrasive — granite, basalt, quartzite — Mn13 work-hardens too slowly and you’re replacing mantles every few weeks.
We recommend Mn18Cr2 (18% manganese with 2% chromium) for most HP300 applications in hard rock. The chromium addition refines the carbide structure, giving you a harder surface layer that resists abrasion better. In our experience, customers running Mn18Cr2 on granite see 30-40% longer wear life compared to Mn13.
One customer of ours in Queensland runs an HP300 in a basalt quarry. They were going through Mn13 mantles every 18 days. We switched them to Mn18Cr2 and they’re getting 25+ days per set now. That’s roughly 40% more production per mantle, and the cost differential is only about 15% higher per piece. The math is obvious.
For very high-silica materials or when you need extreme abrasion resistance, we can also supply high chrome white iron mantles. But those are brittle and only suitable for specific feed conditions — no tramp metal, well-graded feed. We’ll advise you on whether that makes sense for your situation.
Why Mantles Wear Out Prematurely (And How to Fix It)
Premature wear usually comes down to one of four things:
- Wrong cavity profile for your feed. If you’re feeding 120mm rock into an EF (extra fine) cavity, the mantle wears unevenly and you get poor product shape. Match the cavity to your top feed size.
- Wrong material grade. As mentioned above — using Mn13 on hard, abrasive rock is like using a soft toothbrush on concrete. It works, but not for long.
- Tramp metal in the feed. Bucket teeth, drill bits, rebar — these score the mantle surface and create stress concentrations that accelerate cracking and spalling.
- Poor feed distribution. If material is dumping onto one side of the chamber, you get asymmetric wear. The mantle wears thicker on one side and thinner on the other. You’re essentially throwing away 30% of the usable manganese.
We always ask customers for their feed gradation curve and product spec before recommending a cavity profile. It’s not complicated — it just requires a conversation instead of a catalog order.
